Can you sand corian

TIP: the larger the sanding grit number, the smaller the grit. The reverse is true if you are talking about grit size in microns. Also, positioning a light beyond the area you are sanding will help you see the sanding pattern. In a situation where the countertop surface is completely covered by sanding scratches, the less depth that the scratches have, the higher level of gloss. Or stated differently, if light rays bounce off a surface without being deflected by sanding scratches, then you would see a mirror like reflection.

As scratches on the surface become deeper, the light is deflected at greater angles. The resulting images become less distinct and less polished or mirror-like. Ultimately this results in a semi-gloss or blurred image, to even a matte finish where no image is reflected.

Using non-woven pads available in our sanding kits with a random orbit sander adds an interesting touch to the desired finish that is hard to describe. Sand the surface one final time with grit paper if a matte finish is desired. Use grit and grit discs to remove heavy scratches and return the surface a flat finish, similar to the flat finish provided by some sheet manufacturers. Gloss finish: The degree of gloss appearance desired will depend in part on the material color and particulate composition.

Use grit, grit, grit and the gold non-woven pad for a moderate gloss. Then for a higher gloss use the grit in place of the gold pad and the grit polishing compound with the white non-abrasive non-woven pad. Pages: [ 1 ] Go Down. Author Topic: Sanding Corian Read times. Carverr Posts: Greeting FOG members. I have a question about Corian counter tops. I had them installed 4 years ago and my wife brought to my attention today small scratches caused by pulling out small appliances.

My question is what would be the best sander for removing scratches on a large area? Also what paper and pad should I use. I've only worked with wood and never a man made product. She wants the counter top bright again and as we all know if Mama isn't happy no one will be happy. Thanks and Happy Holidays. Assuming it's not a high gloss finish, then the ETS will be the best sander to use. Preferably with a hard pad if you have one. Do you have any coved upstands, or a waterfall edge anywhere? If so then you'll need a softer pad for those areas.

GarryMartin Posts: Good advice from Jonny. Any idea how to get tiny scratches out of a Corian-type countertop? Lucas, Rye. Whether you can do it yourself is up for debate.

If the scratches are light, you might be able to remove them with Comet and a white Scotch-Brite pad. Keep checking to see if the scratches are disappearing.

Or at least, this is one theory being bandied about on the Interweb. You mention cleaning products that lied, so you may have tried this already. But did you persevere? There are countertop repair kits with color-coded, micromesh pads designed to sand scratches out of Corian.
